    Hard to say, perhaps there were some changes on the site with the use of the custom templates for archive pages, making all of the queries on those pages unique. Or some type of caching that preventing the normal filtering. You can use the backups in order to return to the state when everything is working. And from that state, you can debug what is causing this issue.
