Filtering Projects in WordPress

I’ve looked up the shortcode to add portfolio projects to a page and was able to figure out how to add all projects or certain projects by type or tag. My question is, is there a way or a plugin that will list all the projects on the page and then also add a filter on the page so the user/page viewer can manually filter themselves?

I know there are portfolio plugins out there that can do this but I’m trying to use the stock portfolios page that comes with wordpress.
