I need to create an online store for a wine merchant.
Each bottle has a certain amount of information associated with it.
Some of them can be categories (color of the wine, appellation), others seem to me to be attributes (grape varieties, type of vineyard culture, …) and some seem to me more easily manageable in the form of personalized fields (vintage, alcohol level, serving temperature).1/ First point of methodology, is my approach of category/attribute/custom fields, the right one?2/ When I present my store page that lists the different bottles in the catalog, what is the best tool to create a filter system that is able to take into account the different information related to the bottles?
Is there a tool capable of offering the visitor to filter, for instance, the red wines of the merlot grape variety and the 2015 vintage (mixing custom fields, attributes and categories)?Thank you in advance for your help.
    Philippe

  • Hello,

I’m assuming you are referring to the widgets that come with core WooCommerce: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/woocommerce-widgets/
You can organize products using these widgets. However, category widget and filter widget work independently. For complex filtering like yours, you’d need to use a filter plugin such as Product Filters for WooCommerce

    I hope it helps.

    Thanks for your answer.

Well, The plugin you’re talking about doesn’t have a very reassuring rating…
And would there be other plugins that allow to filter on custom fields too?

I’m a new user in the wordpress world, coming from Joomla, and I found very difficult to find something around here, there’s so many agressive commercial plugins… Who is talking true?

    Hi,

There are third-party plugins available too. Here are some plugins I found.
    https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/woocommerce-products-filter/
    https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/themify-wc-product-filter/

Feel free to look for a different plugin too. Free plugins are free to install/uninstall, and most paid plugins offer 30-day money back. It could be a time-consuming process, but you can find one that works best for your store.

We’ve not heard back from you in a while, so I’m marking this thread as resolved. Hopefully, you were able to find a solution to your problem! If you have further questions, please feel free to open a new topic.
