Thanks for reaching out. The wordfence-waf.php file is created when you optimize the Wordfence Firewall. What it sounds like is that you either migrated to a new folder or server without removing the old wordfence-waf.php file or the folder this site is in sits inside another folder that WordPress and Wordfence are in.
eg : You have site.com and this site’s url is site.com/secondsite.
Because the auto_prepend_variable needs to be set so that it works on sub directories too, site.com/secondsite would have the firewall from site.com blocking for it. What you need to do to fix it is Optimize the firewall in the secondsite folder. When it finds the other waf file, you should choose “Override”. Then it will create a new wordfence-waf.php file in the secondsite folder.

Hi Tim –
Thank you. I am on a shared hosting platform. The wordfence-waf.php file is in the top directory of my site and I haven’t moved the site since installing Wordfence. I looked for a second waf file, but couldn’t find any. Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Hi Tim-
I choose the override option and the message, “You are currently running the Wordfence Web Application Firewall from another WordPress installation” about running” is no longer displayed. I am assuming everything is working properly.

hello hope someone could help me with my dilemma, I purchased my domain and hosting from a reseller website company then I used the website for a while but and I stop using it cause I can’t install properly the WordPress. I remember that I install wordfence before and I deleted all files in my file manager because I ve been receiving a lot of errors on my site
so the problem I always get is this error log whenever I installed WordPress manually or from softaculous
it says
PHP Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required ‘/home/shielamaelabton/public_html/wordfence-waf.php’ (include_path=’.:/opt/cpanel/ea-php72/root/usr/share/pear’) in Unknown on line 0
pls help I have not been using my site for almost a year and the support team where I bought this site is unresponsive.
