    Hi everyone,

A few question regarding flat rate shipping…

    1. If I set the shipping to Flat Rate shipping for the store owner, does this mean I don’t have to set anything for UPS or USPS in WP E-commerce? Then the store owner would receive the order via email, then she would call whatever shipping service she wants to use for pickup?

    2. It would also mean she won’t have access to the order tracking?

    3. If I setup the UPS module, it would only be to get accurate real-time pricing, but the store owner would still have to call UPS to get her order picked up or would that happen automatically?

    Am I understanding things correctly?

    Hi cherphas,

Flat rate (and other internal calculators) and USPS/UPS (or other external calculators are not “either/or” propositions. You can have both enabled and available for the customers that visit your site.

If you have flat rate enabled, it would perform as advertised, just charging the customer a flat rate. The store administrator can then do as they like for shipping. It would not preclude the ability to send a tracking email, but that would be a manual process for the store owner.

If you set up UPS, it would get real-time pricing and quotes – it would not handle any order fulfillment for you. None of the core shipping modules handle fulfillment explicitly at this time.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Ok, I have it setup for UPS currently and I thought that the module somehow sent UPS a notification to pickup the order.

For email tracking, I’m guessing it’s the same even with the UPS module – the store owner would have to email the client manually once it’s picked up, or would that module take care of email tracking too? Sorry I’m a bit slow (and tired)!

I may have to switch to Flat Rate shipping. I’ll mention to her that she has to setup the order and send an email to client manually… correct?
