I’m not sure if you have to use folders to get this done. Why not see if you can use tags and categories to group content?
I found this, maybe give it a shot:

I think I already tried every free plugin on the market, including enhanced media library.
It’s actually the one that comes my wishes the closest, but it isnt still enough. If you already have a lot of files or upload many at one time, you need to open up each one and assign a category to it. You can’t create new categories, therefor you must first go to the menu-menu and so on…
It’s a nice plugin but I think this is whats to complicated and doesn’t fit for the average WP user, a simple drag-and-drop folder structure with one simple button would.
Hm. Sorry you’re having that experience. It might be time consuming plugin for a developer to create, but I’m sure they’d get their money back, if they were to charge for it.
It sounds like Enhanced Media Library’s working on it, but that was over a year ago: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/any-way-to-bulk-edit-images?replies=63
I really hope you find a free option, but you might want to consider paid options at this point. It sounds like a complex problem, a complex solution would have complex issues – and you’d probably greatly benefit from a premium/dedicated support team to be responsible for bailing you out when it breaks, especially when the plugin manages your file structure. That level of support typically comes with a paid solution.
Best of luck,

Hi Tyler,
first of all thank you for your nice help and research!
Yes, I actually bought the WP Media Folder mentioned above. It really does the job, but still I don’t think every WP user should pay this price. Almost every other CMS and every computer uses a simple folder/library structure and WP devs claim it would be to complicated for the user ? Come on…
I really hope a function like this will be added to the core in the future.
Anytime LEM31!
Maybe contact WP Media Folder and see if you can work something out to meet your needs in terms of price, maybe they’ll let you license differently.
