forcenumber shortcode doesn’t work

Hello,
First, thank you for the great plugin! Second, I need a bibliography that is both numbered and also has DOI hyperlinks. I’ve tried several numbered styles (e.g. Vancouver, AINS, biofuels…) but the DOI hyperlinks don’t display. I’ve tried the forcenumber shortcode with the APA style and I get hyperlinks but no numbers. I have tried clearing the cache.

Our default citation style is APA, we use a custom theme based off of Genesis, and we’re running WP v4.9.2. Thanks for reading.
