The last time I forgot my password, 2 years ago, I got the following email (I’ll blank out the password for security reasons) but the password isn’t working:

The first option, ‘To Change Your Passwrod’ – the first step is going to the admin panel? How do you access the admin panel please?
Automatic Emailer – I’ve tried that lots of times yesterday and today but haven’t had an email from WordPress.

In this case we will use emergency script to reset the password.
Open the following link.

Create a file named “emergency.php” on your root folder where wordpress is installed.
Copy the file code which is present in GREY block to the file you created. Save the file.
Now open your browser and enter your current site URL with the file you created.
Example:
If http://domain.com is your site utl then open in browser as
http://domain.com/emergency.php
As instructed, enter the administrator username (usually admin) and the new password, then click Update Options. A message is displayed noting the changed password.
An email is sent to the blog administrator with the changed password information.
Delete emergency.php from your server when you are done. Do not leave it on your server as someone else could use it to change your password.
Now you can log in the website.

Or can you tell me how to access the admin panel, then maybe i can action the ‘To Change Your Password’ option from the first link you sent me. That might be easier, by the sounds of it.

just tried it and and it’s not recognising my username or email address. I’ve tried it many times for the heydonandcarr website too, which is the site I need to update most urgently. Thanks for your reply. I don’t know what’s going on
I just tried the shaca one again, using the link you sent (that went to my email address) and that worked. I have a different username and password for that. I inherited that username and password from the person here who used to do it. I can’t get into heydon and carr though
If your heydon and carr username isn’t being recongized, you do need to use some sort of emergency recovery script and FTP to get back in. There is no other way.
When is the last time you were able to login there?
If you can’t do the work yourself, consider looking for a reputable person on http://jobs.wordpress.net/ or http://directory.codepoet.com or http://upwork.com
