What content do you have in the Form tab panel?
the content below is what is in the form – which was given to me by the theme developer to make the form look like the demo form

Then you followed the wrong advice. The form is impossible to work. Discard it and create a new one.

It is now working with a standard formatting. However – the contact form looks hard to navigate – for example:
1 – i cant see where to enter the text – i have to guess its next to the fields
2 – the message text area – the cursor for the textarea starts up in the middle of nowhere
please advise if there is any way to format the form so it looks more professional
