• Why isn’t it possible to format multiple paras in WP 5.6?

I need some paras in itals, some in roman type. I select multiple paras. They get a blue outline. I try to italicise the whole lot using Cmd + i on the Mac. It opens an email in Apple Mail. I waste seconds. Close email, have to go back and individually format 4 paragraphs in WP. More time wasted.

WordPress seems so unintuitive, designed to hamper rather than aid editorial productivity, at least in versions issued since I’ve been using it, the past 2 years. I wonder if it’s designed by writers, or what?

    Maybe I’m missing something?

    Thanks

  • Hi, @pressnine

Thank you for addressing this issue.

While this seem confusing or limiting, I think the Gutenberg team initially assumed that most folks rarely want to apply the same style across multiple paragraphs of text. This is an ongoing and expanding project and there are things to improve. Your feedback is valuable.

The team is constantly trying to understand the challenges people face when using / extending Gutenberg.

An issue very similar to yours has been already opened at
https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/27221 and it may be resolved in a future release.

    Hope this helps,
    Kind regards.

Many thanks for replying – Gutenberg is certainly presenting many challenges to professional editors. WP used to work well but it seems some designer without much literary sense has got hold of the project. I appreciate all WP efforts but it is a great shame it seems nobody who knows how editors work had oversight of recent changes. Editors of course daily face such challenges in a generally illiterate world.

    Kind regards
