I recently set up a personal blog site using WordPress. However when I choose a free theme, I am unable to change things like colours, fonts etc unless I purchase it. I also have another website which has it’s own domain and web host, and the WordPress themes I used on it, were able to be changed (they were free too). So what’s the difference? I hope someone can help me, because I don’t want to have to purchase a theme when it’s supposed to be free.

    Thanks

  • Each theme is created different. Some authors allow color changes in the free version, some do not. It’s the author’s choice. Some themes are worth buying the paid version. I’d advise reading the reviews on each theme before purchasing.

I did place this query as resolved, but it hasn’t. None of the free themes are available to make changes to – obviously this means either I have to go premium on WordPress or purchase a theme for my own WordPress blog/website. Can someone clarify that for me.
    Thanks

Are you on WP.com? If so, you’re limited in what themes and plugins you can use, and you’ll need to purchase the relevant upgrade if you’d like to use some custom CSS to modify your site.

    Hi stephencottontail

Yes, I am running a blog website on WP.com, so I guess that makes sense. I didn’t realise I would have to purchase a template in order to be able modify it/use CSS. That’s fair. Thank you for responding.
