Freezing when bulk registering

I am trying to resister around 4000 jpg files that are all in the same folder. When going to do so the register process will freeze at random times. Occasionally it will register about 4% and freeze (a couple hundred images), but other times it will only register 10 images and then freeze.

Is there a common issue that could be causing this?
