• Hello, I am currently having an issue with my front page.. it is published. It is the main .com of my site and that’s what I want to use as my home page address. I am not however seeing it under pages when I go to try and select a home page in my settings. I read that this is because I didn’t “create” a home page but I did create it, with a template. Any previous answers I’ve read are either old or don’t apply.

How do I get this main site to show up in my pages so that I can select it as my main home page.

I’m trying to get the site submitted to google and bing and start learning SEO and this was the first step. I can’t seem to get past it.
    Thank you for any help.

Where (in the dashboard) did you go to create and publish this mysterious page? What “template” did you use to create it?

Can you share the permalink (address) of the page in question? If you don’t have the address, can you take a FULL PAGE screenshot of where you edit the page in the “template” and share it here? (Upload screenshot here: https://snipboard.io/)

The site is gsnrg.com. I just used one of the word press design theme templates called launchify.
when I got to settings > reading > your homepage displays… I select a static page and it’s not an option. Just my other 4 pages are which are all linked to the main page.

To answer your other question.. I edit it by clicking the top left button with my page name. Then it brings me to a similar page that has a second button that says edit site. From there I believe it just uses the main wp site editor. I can click on different sections and remove or add etc…

You need to pay a little attention to the words you encounter and use in WordPress… because that matters a lot. For instance… “theme”, “template”, and “page” all mean totally different things. But it seems you’ve taken liberty with these words, so I’m having a hard time understanding your problem.

A WordPress PAGE is what you create when you select “ADD NEW” under “PAGES” in the dashboard, and that’s what you can select under SETTINGS => READING => YOUR HOMEPAGE DISPLAYS AS. Everything else has a different name — eg POST, TEMPLATE, etc — and serves a different purpose.

From what I can glean from your response…

    1) You’re using the Launchify theme.

    2) Like any theme, Launchify comes with a number of templates. You’ll see these different templates when you go to APPEARANCE => EDITOR => TEMPLATES

Is it one of these TEMPLATES that you edited? If so, what’s the name of the specific template you edited?

I’ve installed the Launchify theme on a test site so I can follow along with you. Standing by for your response. And please mention the exact name or label when describing any button you clicked. “Top left button” doesn’t help me understand anything!

I am very new to this so I apologize if anything here is frustrating.

what I meant was that I click on the home icon at the very top left. Visit site then pops up. Then edit site.

    front page is the template

When I go to appearance > editor and under design click on pages.. it’s listed at the top as “front page”. It has the home icon next to it and the other 4 pages are listed there as well with just the page icon

    Thanks for the clarification.

Let’s take a closer look at the Front Page template’s description:

    Front Page

Displays your site’s homepage, whether it is set to display latest posts or a static page. The Front Page template takes precedence over all templates.

In other words, whatever you see and edit in this template IS your homepage.

And there’s no need to select anything again in SETTINGS => READING or anywhere else… because, as the above description says, the Front Page template takes precedence and overrides that setting.

Yes that’s exactly what I am seeing.. so then I don’t need my “home page” to show up under pages?

so then I don’t need my “home page” to show up under pages?

    You don’t need that.

For the Launchify theme you’re using, the “Front Page” template IS your homepage.

Note that some themes do not have this “Front Page”. If you were to be using such a time without the “Front Page” template, then you’d have to first create a PAGE that you’d like to present as your homepage… and then you’d find this page under SETTINGS => READING to select as your static homepage.
