The difference between a Wiki and a KnowledgeBase is that a Wiki is updated by a community, on the front-end, where a KB is updated by a knowledge source only from the back-end. So is this really Yada KB? 🙂

I was thinking I could create a custom post type that would accept wiki contributions, moderate and vet them like comments or other post types, and then copy/paste contributed text into a front-end populated by Yada Wiki. But that still relies on someone on the back-end. Compare this to MediaWiki or any other Wiki where post-submission moderation is prudent, but when the community both contributes and moderates, then the burden is relieved from the site admin.

So where does Yada Wiki fit with this? Or stated another way : I want my registered members to be able to create new wiki pages and update what’s there. I’m I correct that Yada Wiki is not a good match here?

    Thanks!

(BTW, saw the intro videos, expected the second to be more polished than first, and it was. Was hoping for a different application example rather than a duplication of the Chess Wiki, but it was OK as-is. Thanks for that too.)

    Hi Starbuck,

You are correct that collaborative editing is a feature of wikis and the Yada Wiki plugin is geared more to users with backend access. The plugin currently uses post permissions and giving users that access is not appropriate in all circumstances.

Thank you for the feedback and assessment so that I know where people would like to see improvements. Sorry it is not a good fit for your current need.

    Regards,

    Hi Starbuck,

I tried out some access management plugins and wrote an article that might help with the ability to allow users to contribute wiki content (alas, from the backend).

David – I’m cycling back here to re-affirm that your efforts are not in vain. I like your suggestion and will give it a shot. I haven’t done anything with wiki on my sites since our exchanges but it’s still on the agenda.

I’m not seeing most of the images on that page. I don’t think I need them but others might.

    Regards.

    Hi Starbuck,

Thanks for the heads-up about the images. I have been moving stuff around and those did not come over. I appreciate that you let me know and that you cycled back.

I am starting to look at adding some roles that could be enabled by a plugin like Members, which might make things easier, but haven’t gotten to dig into it yet.

    Regards,

    David
