• I’ve been using WordPress web UI to administer. Now I want to change footer.php but that requires write access, which can only be enabled via FTP. I was directed to https://codex.ww.wp.xz.cn/Changing_File_Permissions.

I bought a domain through WordPress and have not yet found online how to obtain its administration or FTP. I did look up on https://whois.icann.org/ which gave

    [whois info]

among other stuff. Yes, I’ve registered a (different) domain before but directly through Dynadot, which gave me all the credentials. This time, it was indirectly through WordPress, I got the domain, and it also gave me an email via G Suite, but no actual administration credentials that I have found.

Well to go/ask to obtain such information? I bet likely some place on WordPress itself that I haven’t found yet.

  • Hello,

WordPress (the software at ww.wp.xz.cn) does NOT sell domains or host websites.

If you meant WordPress.com (a hosting service that uses the WordPress software), please go to their support page for help: https://en.support.wordpress.com/

Other than that, kindly give your domain name so we can dig out your registrar and host.

Thank you so much! My domain is gmachine1729.com. And I’ve already looked up the following information.

[Moderated:redacted a lot of irrelevant WHOIS data]

    Thank you!

I’m not sure if you know this but there is a difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, as noted here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Please also note that if you are using WordPress.com that you will not be able to edit any PHP files.
