FTP credentials requested after update

    Running 3 WP sites on my Amazon instance with a static IP. Everything is managed via SSH.

    Shortly after updating one of my sites to 3.3.1 I am suddenly asked for FTP credentials in order to update the other sites to the new version or even update the plugins. I’ve never been asked to provide this information before so I’m not really sure where to find it.

    I read in another thread that is may be because WP is having issues accessing the files in the wordpress directory. Could this be due to a permissions problem?

    Found a solution.

    Go to /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf and check what the user and group is. Make sure that the apache and wordpress directories use the same combination of user and group.
