FTP Password not accepted/ Permalink issues

    My wordpress site won’t accept my ftp username and password. I didn’t think this was a big deal, as I’ve just been upgrading and installing plugins manually.

    Then I decided to change the permalink structure, and can only access the homepage. It seems that these are related?

    I manually created an htaccess file, pasted in the code and uploaded it using FTP. No joy. I’ve also changed the permissions on the index.php file to writable.

    Any ideas or workarounds for this?
