Is there a way to just add a link to the entire background? If not, can I turn off the hover effect if I put a link on the image?

Hi @timotmo

You can set a link for the whole slide by writing the URL to the Slider settings -> Settings tab -> Link field: https://smartslider3.helpscoutdocs.com/article/1297-slide-settings-settings
