This sounds like a theme issue. Can you post a link?
I am having a similar issue. I can get the full size calendar, but it is missing the top and right hand lines, and I really would like to use the wp fullcalendar version (which I’ve installed), but it doesn’t show up at all! I’ve gone over the settings, tried numerous themes, NADA.
How do I get the wp fullcalendar pretty version to show up? And yes, I’ve deactivated/reactivated all my plugins repeatedly. Nada.

I think your theme is fiddling with the calendar CSS.
Try adding this to the end of the style.css file:
table.fullcalendar {
width: 100%;
}
Thanks for the idea, but that’s not it. I can shrink it to 90% and it looks the same. It seems like the top and right borders just aren’t showing but when I go into the css to tweak it, it doesn’t make any affect. 🙁
