    Hello,
We are currently evaluating whether GD is a feasible solution for our regional yellow pages project. One of the main challenges is with GD & WPML to get multilanguage support implemented. Namely, we have the following two/three issues with GD in conjunction with WPML.

    • The page is originally in German and I added English as a second language according to the GD and WPML documentation. This mostly works. However, I noticed that when a user switches to English and creates a new listing, it will automatically be added as a German listing. E.g., it shows up for German page visitors but not for English visitors. If I try to edit the listing, WPML offers me to translate it into English (which it already should be). My expectation is that when I switch the site to English, that GD/WPML would add the listing in the language I am using.
    • Similar to this, English listings do not show up for English users after they were translated. (which, Btw, is a terrible UX implementation that the user needs to create a duplicate and then translate it instead of offering a language switching tab upon the original listing creation). My expectation is that when a user switches to German, they only see German listings, and when switching to English, they only see English items. However, in this scenario, they are all shown as German listings even after the translation of the individual listings.
    • Finally, when I put together a account page where the user can see their listings, it only shows the ones of the currently selected language. My expectation would be that some of the GD widgets could be configured to show all listings of the user regardless of the language.

I looked into the database to figure out how the listings are discerned with regard to their language, but it seems GD itself does not hold any kind of language column. As such, I am trying to figure out if the above observations are an expected behavior, a potential bug or just a misconfiguration on my end.

Since we are spending more time trying to GD to work then we prefer, (mainly due to the shipped GD widgets being very inflexible and terrible to customize), this is now a blocker that will potentially force us to look for an alternative solution. Therefore, I would appreciate any kind of suggestions about what could be the issue here.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

Having set this up many times I can sympathize with your experience and apologize for any blocks you are experiencing.

Yes, the user can select the language to add the listing in.

To make this possible the add listing page itself must be translated.

Then you must provide links so that the user can reach the correct page based on their language choice.

We primarily provide support through our ticketing system.
