• Hi guys,

I would like to make a suggestion to WordPress developers, I do not know if this is the right site, please, if it is not I would appreciate if you could tell me where I should go.

For a long time, all European websites must obtain the user’s consent when they send data using a form. This is an obligation to comply with the law.

There is no problem doing this on web forms with the exception of the comment form.

Wordpress provides the user, for this form, the option to choose if he wants to save in his browser a cookie that identifies him, and this is fine because it is also mandatory that the user can choose which cookies to store.

But the form does not have a system for the user to accept the data privacy policy explicitly, as required by European laws.

All forms in Europe must have a check to accept the privacy policy and a description where a summary of this policy is offered, both elements are mandatory on all European websites.

With my knees on the ground and tears in my eyes, I want to beg the WordPress developers to facilitate this functionality so that we can easily comply with the Privacy Policy Law just as they have done to comply with the Cookies law .

THE WHOLE EUROPE WILL THANK YOU!

    Kind regards,
    Raquel.

    Hiya,

I’m not familiar with this rule you’re referring to my self (also being European), what is true is that you need to make it clear what information you save via your sites privacy policy (WordPress helps facilitate a start of this with every new site, under Settings > Privacy), as the process of storing a commenters name, email and actual comment is implied by the fields asking for this information, and is a requirement to prevent misuse of the feature, as such it would be exempt from the explicitly declaration parameters of the rules.

I am not a lawyer though, but we’ve got some great minds continually working on this, and the current checkbox for cookies has so far been the only item that has been a requirement.

If you worry that further legislations are employed in your region, you may wish to check with your legal counsel (we can not do this for you), and look towards a plugin (a quick search showed me https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/wp-comment-policy-checkbox/, but https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/tags/gdpr/ and https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/tags/privacy-policy/ may have other options for you as well, that was just the topmost result).
