Context: I’ve inherited our WordPress instance and have been working on cleanup, optimization, and security. The company that was managing it was doing almost nothing and was not worth the money.

One of my security ideas, probably like many others, was to restrict access to wp-admin. I figured wp-admin was only ever used when accessing the admin portal. When browsing any page, I saw requests to wp-admin and determined “Bill Catch Errors” was a part of “Restore Classic Widgets”.

I understand that this plug-in will report JS errors to WordPress, I’ve seen them before. However, is this something that should be enabled at all times? I don’t know the justification for them installing “Restore Classic Widgets”, perhaps this was the only reason. (Then again, they had a lot of plugins some which were out-of-date and others which weren’t even configured/setup.)

    Hi,

All our plugins are up to date and compatible with the latest version of WordPress.

All our plugins require sufficient free memory, and the site must be free of PHP and JavaScript errors to function properly. JavaScript errors break the processing flow, and the next steps stop executing. Our blog has a lot of literature on this subject.

We provide free suggestions to our users when our plugins detect server issues, explaining how to eliminate them. This helps reduce the load on our support caused by problems that are not our responsibility. It also saves our users time. If you have any questions, please let us know.

The script “Bill Catch Errors” is lightweight and does nothing if no errors are found. It’s like a thermometer that measures the temperature of your car engine. It takes up little space and only gives a warning when necessary.

    Regards,

    Bill, Plugin developer
