• I am creating an online magazine that will launch in two cities + main site. I want to set them up like this: maindomain.com, la.maindomain.com and sf.maindomain.com.

The main site would populate with all posts from all sites, while the two subdomains will be for city-specific content. Both will have the same style, menu, sections, etc. The only difference will be the logo, backgrounds and content. Contributors will be city specific.

    – Is multisite the way to go?

    – Best way/practice to setup theme so that it works across all sites in some instances, but each can have there own custom elements?

    – Any other resources would be great!!

    Thanks!

Multisite can be the way to go. It’s hard to give you a definite answer for something that’s so subjective. It’s next to “Do these jeans make my butt look big?”

Both will have the same style, menu, sections, etc. The only difference will be the logo, backgrounds and content. Contributors will be city specific.

I’d be inclined to just use categories or CPTs and then use a role manager to restrict them to their own. Change the theme so the background and logo change based on the category (like the logo is logo-catNUM.jpg).

If you want to use Multisite, you’ll want to use WPMU Sitewide Tags for pulling in content to the main site, and then hardcode the theme menus :/
