I’ve been using Simply Static for a few weeks with no issues. Today, I’ve been trying to get a successful generation, the activity log doesn’t update beyond this:

    [2025-05-05 16:21:16] Setting up

    [2025-05-05 16:21:21] Fetched 187 of 200 pages/files

but the log file grows very quickly. I dont see any errors in the log file, but it looks like it is looping through the same files.
    Diagnostics are all green.
    Running WP version 6.8.1
    Simply Static version 3.2.8.1
    WP Local version 9.2.4+6788

I can send the logs, but they are very big, so if there are excerpts that would be easier – I can send those.

    Thanks

    Hey @mudbone67,

it sounds like a permission issue (more specifically that there aren’t writing permissions for our log file).

Have you checked our documentation for local development environments?
Any security plugins installed in your installation that might cause restrictions on the filesystem?

Hi @patrickposner. Thanks. I checked the local development environments doc, and am running on local WP, SSL, etc. One thing I’ve noticed is that the fetching on the Activity Log gets to within 13 of the total pages and then doesnt update beyond that. It seems to be the same number each time (currently 187 of 200 pages/files). I’ve tried on different computers, it stops at the same place. Could it be due to a corrupted file?

Let me know if there is more data that would be helpful to troubleshoot and resolve this. Thanks.

Good news! I resolved the issue. There were images in the site that were from screenshots, and the filenames had a narrow no-break space character () in the filename. I renamed the files and the site generated static pages in seconds.
