Get a Specific Recent Post

I’m making a theme were on the index page there are multiple spots where the most recent post should go, and then the second, and third, etc.

How might I be able to get the title of the most recent post and second and so on?

I would just need the titles, authors, featured pictures and excerpts for this page, not the full posts.
