Getting errors on widget page with NG installed
-
I am getting weird errors when trying to save/delete widgets unrelated to NGG with NGG activated. They are errors about bad JSON. The errors basically make it impossible to manage the widget page.
I’m on 5.8.1. I’ve seen another module on a totally different site do the same thing. Had to disable it. Perhaps something changed in the widgets api.

Hi @stevied,
Can you please let us know if the JSON issue goes away if deactivating NextGen Gallery?
It may also help if you have the possibility to delete then re-add the widgets new to the widgets areas.Guessing that it all has to do with WP migrating the widgets to a block system. We are getting some inconsistent results on that this far but I personally, wasn’t able to directly replicate it on my site while NGG was active.
As a temporary workaround, you can try to use Classic Widgets plugin that will basically return your site to the old widgets management screen.

Yes, only happens with NGG. I deactivated all other plugins except for MEC calendar and NGG. With NGG off, I had no issues saving/deleting widgets. With it on, I got the JSON errors and other weird behaviors.
Note that this site was upgraded so it’s not clean, fresh out of the box. I ran into errors while trying to upgrade. I had to switch themes in order to get the site upgraded because I was getting json errors there, too. I’m using Hestia (non-pro).
I had the same exact problem on another site but that site didn’t have NGG installed. It was another plugin giving me the same symptoms as NGG.
So it seems like there is some kind of complex interaction going on between widgets/themes/plugins.
I’ve switched to the “classic” widget system for now as a workaround.
Hi @stevied,
Yeah, agree here. There must be something convoluted here and not exactly sure how that’s being triggered when NextGen Gallery is active since that’s not something replicable on our own testing sites so at least we can assume that’s something inconsistent.
If you wouldn’t mind, please reach our support service directly at https://www.imagely.com/report-bug/ and we’ll try to debug it.
