Im so burnt out right now Im just going to just give the specs and try to explain the best I can.

I am doing a shopping cart based site. The main site (domain.com) is a custom embroidery site that will host various companies stores for their employees (company.domain.com, or domain.com/company, whichever will work I dont have a preference)

Ive talked to three people from Godaddy, and now I have a year of 5 wordpress sites package.
Do I need that? Or can I just work off of one wordpress site package?

I want my domain.com to be the network daddy(heh) of the other companies, so I can edit everything in one dashboard. Which is why Multisite seems to be what I want.

I created a company1.domain.com wordpress in one of the 5 wordpress sites package.
The domain.com is in another 1 wordpress site package.

For the Domain.com, I edited the DNS and added an A(Host) for Company1, making its IP the same as domain.com. However even though domain.com has company1 in its dashboard, I cannot change anything.

When I go to company1.domain.com it acts like a completely separate site (which is what it is at this point, I’m guessing)

So is it even possible to get those sites to merge together in a way that when someone makes an account it goes across all sites, and I can edit them all in one dashboard? I also really dont want to have to buy another 5 site package if we need more companies added.

    On a side note:
My boss wants to just throw a folder somewhere in the hosting using FTP and put a new site in that, and have it domain.com/company1/index however I dont think it could work that way (as I cannot find custom named folders through FTP anyway)

You CAN run Multisite on GoDaddy and you CAN use it to run a store, but …

That you don’t know how to do custom named folders via FTP makes me think you’re not experienced enough with WP and servers to make this a wise idea yet.

Even if you use Multisite, domain.com and company1.domain.com will be separate sites on the network.

Do you need them to share content? If so, Multisite won’t make you very happy.

I got that far making a Multisite on GoDaddy. Its just not working how I want to lol, but I realized there’s a reason for this.

I can make custom folders via FTP- however where is what eludes me. So if thats what you mean then yes, I am not experienced enough 🙂 But I think I will stay away from that idea anyway.

I mainly make things look pretty and function on the surface, I’ve only dabbled in more simple server type things. But for the time being I’m the only person my boss has for this :/

I looked at it today and you’re right- Multisite is not how I want to go 🙂 And separate sites are what we need. So thank you for your input and time! I now know what direction I need to go in 🙂
