Good, stable solution but still with some missing functionality
-
a good and quite complete solution when it Comes to presenting sports-leagues.
Good is:
– ability to cover different kinds of sports
– ability to amend the way data is shown
– ability to organize Teams, Clubs, Players, matches, results, league tables
There are several drawbacks.
– Import functionality Shows a bad design. too complicated and don’t reflect all necessary Import data.
As example Player Import is restricted to 7 data headers (Number,Name,Positions,Teams,Competitions,Seasons,Nationality) and is separated by comma instead of semicolon.
It is fine for 1-1 Connection, but when you have a big amount of old data to be imported, it is not enough. Especially you have in most sports a current and previous Team (which can be a Long list). But the Import just Import the current Team, not the past Team. Even the leagues and seasons is just 1 entry, not several.
This goes through all import-possibilities. A good Intention, but not well thought.
I personally don’t use Player profiles, because I can’t influence which data is shown there and how it is designed. A good Advantage would be to be able to select from the backend which data in which order you want to Show.
The same for Player lists. You can’t use them for a ranking list. You can only sort by 1 criteria, which is much too less for most sports (which is requested since 1 year from several users). So i prefer a Manual Approach for Rankings, although I lose the Advantage of linked Player Details. Maybe one day it will receive the same sorting order Options like the league tables, it would be a big step Forward…
Out of curiousity I loaded the preset of Darts and found out, that there is a function implemented, which is neither documented, nor possible to add manually inside configuration league table (never found any hint what the ‘$’ exactly do). The documentation don’t goes into depth when it Comes to configuration. In most cases the presets are just a starting Point and will not be complete for most sports.
Maybe the backend Performance would be worth to mention.
When the amount of data becomes quite big (like several leagues with several hundred Players) the Performance can become an issue (depends on the Webspace as well).
Most pages load quite fast, but the match page can take a while to load as there are many datatable Connections in question.
From the current Approach I will never go to Premium. The Advantages are for my Needs too low and the Price way too high.
Of course they have the Intention to get something back from the time and talents they are investing. But with a “normal” Price range there would be a bigger amount of premium users.
I apprecciate the effort and the functionalities, but from perfect it is far away, because of this just 4 stars…
