Your suggestion makes sense, and it is perhaps something we will add in the future. We don’t have any timelines for that though, unfortunately.
As a workaround, it should be possible to add your own link direct to the file, beneath the embed. For example:
[pdf-embedder url=”https://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/MyDocument.pdf”%5D

It’s already there, actually. All you have to do, is to hover over the upper right corner of the document displayed, and click the “pop out” icon. In the following full screen display of the document, there is a print icon at the top 🙂
