• Hi all,

I’ am trying to add Google Analytics to my blog. I ‘am still completing the initial procedures required by Google Analytics.

Can someone advise me where do I have to copy the CODE I was provided by Google Analytics? In which of the theme templates?

    Thanks in advance!

  • didn’t you read the instructions from google? it says there you should paste the codes before </body> of your theme! should be in the footer.php

I’ve just added google analytics code. If you are not a coder or developer this can be a bit of a challenge.

Yes it needs to go in </body> of footer.php – but where/how to find this!

I went into my siteadmin and browsed the files. In my case plesk control panel provided by my web host. Using file manager I browsed to

    httpdocs / wp-content / themes / mytheme

footer.php is a file in this folder.

(you may find httpdocs in your root folder or in your wordpress folder).

I selected ‘edit file’ . Footer.php is a short file and </body> is near the bottom of the page. I paste the code from google in, hit save, went back to google and clicked ‘check status’ and hey presto my google analystics is working 🙂

Hope this helps any other ‘non-technies’ looking for an answer

@rachel@kathys – that is a very complicated and long winded way of doing it…

Just go into wp-admin of your wordpress site, go to appearance. Then click “editor” under the appearance menu, select the footer.php and add the code there. Click update and you’re done!

I like the plugin called Google Analyticator – It is pretty simple to install and use and even displays basic stats on your dashboard. Look in the plugin directory for Google Analyticator
