Hello @fatima0928 thanks for opening a support topic. We have seen a number of reports similar to yours recently. This is likely due to the introduction of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) that requires companies to obtain user consent before they can collect personal data.

The Google EU user consent policy (EUUCP) requires site owners to implement consent mode for Ads and Analytics customers in the European Economic Area (EEA).

Site Kit now has a consent mode setting which you can find by going to Site Kit > Settings > Admin Settings. For more information on consent mode and how to set this up, see our guide here.

If you are not using Google Ads on your site then please let me know and I can look into this further for you to see what the cause could be. You can also share your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.

Let me know if you have any questions on the above information.

@fatima0928 Thank you for sharing the information. I can’t see anything of concern with your setup so I would recommend making sure you have set up consent mode in Site Kit and your data should begin to come through over the next couple of days.

If you still don’t see any data after setting up consent mode then please let me know and we can investigate further.

As you have guided us we have added consent mode through sitekit recommended plugins. But we have a question in mind ” adsense gdpr and sitekit consent mode the same thing or we need to set the gdpr ,cpra separately for adsense? And can i also ask that is it important to set both gdpr and cpra in adsense ?

@fatima0928 Thanks for your question. The DMA is a new regulation that aims to regulate the digital market and ensure fair competition among digital service providers. It also aligns with existing data privacy laws, including GDPR, which sets out rules for the collection, use, and storage of personal data.

The difference between the two is that DMA is aimed towards the digital service providers, in this case Google with Site Kit, to provide the consent mode solution whereas GDPR is aimed at the site owner to manage user consent. There is crossover between the two but I would suggest also checking our GDPR compliance and privacy page for more information.

You can also find all the information on both DMA and GDPR on the pages below:

I hope this helps to answer your question and please do let me know if you have any more questions relating to Site Kit and I will be happy to help.

thank you so much for so much details and clearance. Still we got some more questions as we have conducted our research and found that consent for analytic through google tag manager? Should we do that or sitekit consent plugin will do it for us? Also Can you tell us for which google products we still need to add consent? That is must and important for our website.

@fatima0928 GDPR requires user consent management for Google Analytics, Tag Manager, or AdSense as stated in the guide linked above.

Consent mode is required in Site Kit if Google Ads is connected or an Ads conversion ID is placed by Google Analytics. You will also need this if you have connected your Ads account to your Analytics account.

If you are compliant with both of the above then you shouldn’t need to use the consent feature for Analytics through Tag Manager.

hi, i have another question. After adding consent through sitekit plugin. After few hours our traffic dropped to lower then usually. Is it normal or we are doinf something wrong?

@fatima0928 Your traffic can fluctuate for a number of different reasons so it is difficult for us to say what the cause for this could be. You shouldn’t lose traffic directly as a result of implementing consent mode but this could be due to other circumstances.

    (@fatima0928)

what other circumstances could be. Can you help me out little bit. As we have tried everything thing we could possibly do

@fatima0928 We are limited to support for the Site Kit plugin here, Any issues with Analytics traffic fall out of the scope of the support we can offer. You can reach out to the Analytics Help Center if you are having issues with your Analytics data.

If you have any further questions on the Site Kit plugin then I will be happy to help with those.
