    Hi,

All my sites have a rather low pagespeed score here with Google PageSpeed Insights. Now I know Google Pagespeed should be taken with a pinch of salt but the optimised images I’m downloading from google are around 40% more optimised without loss of quality.

Take a look at my test site: http://testing.adaptable-demo.com/

Can you see from the test how one can download the already-optimised image that is now 40% reduced in compression.

I have read elsewhere that this may be due to aggressive compression via Google but I don’t see a difference in the quality I’m afraid.

Can you advise me on your take and whether you have updated your engine of late.

    Many Thnaks

    Regards Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for the example. PageSpeed is different to TinyPNG and does seem to take an aggressive approach. Some images compressed with TinyPNG may be fine according to PageSpeed whereas others Google seems to rate them completely different. We have always put a big emphasis on quality. Also we detect several image characteristics that influence the output, like for example when images have many sharp edges which JPEG has difficulty with.

That said we improve the TinyPNG engine on a regular basis and at some point in time we will probably overhaul parts and take into account PageSpeed “recommendation” with the aim to produce a more similar or better output which could also address images similar to your demo image.
