Google’s new search console reports an error due to the format of the sitemap generated by SEO Framework (example: https://www.fusion3design.com/sitemap.xml)

“Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.”

Not sure how critical this is, but suggests that all the HTML formatting should be stripped away to ensure 100% google acceptance / compliance.

    Hi there!

I think they’re showing a false positive, or they’ve encountered a 404-page whilst crawling due to WP Rewrite issues. In either case, this should be resolved automatically, as the sitemap’s showing correctly; and, there’s no HTML-formatting in the .xml file.

The HTML (and CSS) formatting is done via the .xsl file (example.com/sitemap.xsl), but Google doesn’t–nor shouldn’t–pick this up.
