Hi there,
I understand how frustrating it can be to have GPay (Google Pay) always appear even if you don’t offer it
First, please ensure that the Express Checkout option is disabled by following these steps:
- Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Payments
- Click Manage next to Stripe
- Scroll down to the Express Checkout section
- Make sure Express Checkout / Google Pay / Apple Pay is unchecked
- Save the changes
This should prevent the GPay button from appearing on your checkout page.
If you still face the same issue, please share your System Status Report (WooCommerce → Status) if the issue persists, so we can investigate further. You can paste it here using https://pastebin.com/ or https://gist.github.com/.
We’re seeing the same behavior on a live production site: even when Google Pay is unchecked and saved, it re-enables itself automatically. This appears to be a Stripe plugin bug rather than a configuration issue.
What worked as a temporary mitigation for us:
Even though the main Google Pay toggle keeps re-activating, disabling all display locations prevents it from showing on the frontend.Steps:
Disable Google Pay display for:
- Product pages
- Cart page
- Checkout page
Save settings
https://screenrec.com/share/aiK2TlLy0b
After doing this, Google Pay no longer appears anywhere on the site, even if the backend toggle shows as enabled.
This confirms the issue is with the state not persisting correctly, but the display controls still work as expected.
Hopefully this helps others until a proper fix is released.
Thanks
JafarHi @jafarsadiqu,
Thanks so much for sharing your findings; that’s really helpful for others following along. I tested on my side and disabling Google Pay/Apple Pay works as expected, which also unchecks the Product pages, Cart page, and Checkout page options. Here’s a quick screencast showing the behavior: https://streamable.com/3qrt6m.
That leads me to believe the issue may be isolated to your environment. To get to the root of it, could you please share your System Status Report (SSR) as we requested earlier?
Also, just to clarify, is this your site: https://www.durkintactical.com/? I checked and it appears to be using Authorize.net for payments. Are you only using Stripe, or is it in combination with WooPayments, Square, or another payment method? It could be that we’re looking in the wrong place if multiple gateways are active.
In the meantime, we’d recommend running a quick theme/plugin conflict test (switching to Storefront and disabling all plugins except WooCommerce and Stripe). That will help us pinpoint whether another plugin or customization is interfering.
If you don’t have the time to test further right now, turning off the display options like you did can suffice as a workaround.
Hi @jafarsadiqu,
thanks man. You’re my hero of today 🙂
This workaround saves me a lot of hair getting grey!!@frankremmy: Our site is running at https://www.explorercoffee.de we’re just using paypal (from woo) and stripe plugin for credit card payments.
Hi @jonkel,
I’m glad you found @jafarsadiqu’s response and suggestion helpful. Disabling the option to show Express Checkout on specific pages does indeed turn it off and prevents it from appearing on the site. That is a clever workaround, @jafarsadiqu.
I’ve tried to reproduce the issue several times on my end, including waiting about an hour after disabling Express Checkout on a test site, but I haven’t been able to replicate the behavior.
While the workaround is effective for now, gaining a clearer understanding of your setup and the environment where this issue occurs will help us provide the development team with more useful details.
@jonkel, could you please share your system status report as previously requested by my colleague, and also confirm which hosting platform you’re using? @jafarsadiqu, we would appreciate it if you could do the same. These are currently the only two reports we’ve received, so this information will help us identify any potential patterns in configuration or environment.
Hi @jonkel
I hope you’re having a great day. As we haven’t heard back, I’ll close this thread for now. Of course, feel free to reach out again if you need any further assistance.
If our support helped, or if you’d like to leave feedback about the plugin, we’d be grateful for a review here:
