I had done quite a few customizations to 2025 theme (edited and new templates, custom patterns, CSS, navigation menus) then realized I need a child theme to accommodate The Events Calendar (template overrides) so I used Create Block Theme to make a child theme with all my customizations… supposedly.

    Issues so far:

the 2 google fonts I was using were not installed, instead a list of other fonts were, and I had to delete them all in order to re-install the 2 I wanted. Once I did that all the typography settings that used those fonts were thankfully back to normal.

BUT the custom fonts are not displaying when in the site editor.

As others have noticed, my patterns are all locked and I have to re-place them on the templates then save them as new patterns.

Nav menu placements in templates are all reverted to a default menu. My menus are still in the editor, I just have to put them into the templates again.

Some custom templates missing headers and footers, others ok. The ones that are problematic seem to be the ones belonging to “webmaster” (me) and the new theme ones are ok for the most part.

Seems like some templates I had created and then deleted in 2025 were added to the child theme, and I can’t delete them.

Will need to do some code editing for sure.

Update – the fonts are showing correctly in the theme editor as of this morning, must have been a caching issue. Found out why a couple of extra templates are showing up that seem to be duplicates, they are in the /templates folder of the theme, and are specific to The Events Calendar. I had to re-customize them.

Haven’t figured out how to unlock the patterns, so I just duplicated each one and replaced the locked ones in the pages and templates with the editable versions. Luckily only 8 patterns to deal with. Still need to get rid of the locked ones.
