Grid view card transform in Safari on mobile

How does Events Manager get event cards in grid view to transform in Safari on a mobile device when you touch one whilst scrolling (so basically a hover event on desktop)?

I have a bunch of clickable card designs that scale on desktop on hover but this does not work in Safari on mobile devices (it does work on Chrome, Firefox and Edge on mobile). However, when I put the same cards on a page that has an EM shortcode somewhere, the cards transform. EM is doing something to make hover work in Safari on mobile and I’d like to do the same thing wherever my cards are.

Does anyone know?
