I am working through the support documentation and trying to ensure I am correcting configuring Complianz and GA4 / Tag Manager. I have been working through the Wizard and have seen that I don’t have the option to add the relevant GTM Container ID. Is this because I have incorrect set up elsewhere?

Most likely because you have a GTM/GA plugin installed like GTM4WP or Google Site Kit. In these plugin you can configure GTM.
If you want to use GTM with Complianz, make sure you select Google Tag Manager under Consent – Statistics in the wizard, so Complianz will fire the appropriate custom events.
I am afraid I am still struggling with understanding how to balance data collection and complying with GDPR.
I am using GTM4WP to integrate GA and GTM with my website, and I am now trying to work out if I have configured everything correctly (including the Complianz plugin) so that I am able to collect useful data but also be UK-GDPR compliant.
In the Wizard, I have selected:
Yes, and Google Tag Manager fires this script
I have accepted the Google data processing amendment (in Google Analytics)
Google is not allowed to use this data for other Google services (in Google Analytics)
Acquiring IP-addresses is blocked (I’m not sure if this has been done – is there an easy way to check?)
Do you want to ask consent for statistics? Yes
Do you want to use ‘Consent per Service? Yes
My questions are:
Is there a simple way to check that the set up is correct? Is there a simple way to check if I the cookies/tags are only working after consent?
I am assuming most people will not consent to cookies because it is easier to dismiss the pop-up rather than opting in. Does this mean there will be minimum data?
I have read the below article about Configuring Google Analytics 4 for GDPR and have implemented the recommendations. Does that mean I will not be able to collect demographic data (e.g. town location) and search console data?
One of the easiest ways to check if any Analytics page views are loading (before/after consent) would be to use the TagBird extension in Google Chrome. This visualizes the pageviews/tags that are fired, so you can see if this occurs before or after obtaining consent. I already did this for you, and Analytics is currently loaded before obtaining consent.
Using Tag Manager to fire Analytics when “Statistics” consent is obtained
If I am not mistaken; your website mainly targets UK residents. And as per the applicable rules in the UK, we highly recommend that you block Google Analytics entirelybefore obtaining consent. As you would have to obtain explicit consent for such statistics, even when fully anonymized & locally hosted.
I would therefore suggest firing the Analytics tag in your GTM container on the Statistics trigger from Complianz, as opposed to a trigger such as “All Pages”.
After which you can change the Firing Trigger of the Analytics tag to “(Default) Trigger Statistics”, so that it only fires after consent to the Statistics category is received in Complianz.
