Guru Help – Should I use wordpress?
-
I have a client I’m helping (freebee for a charity organization). I’ve always hand-coded everything from scratch when making a site (PHP, CSS, Javascript, etc.). However, this lady keeps mentioning wordpress (she created a site using wordpress templates before, though not the best by far).
My question to the gurus is, “Is this a good fit for wordpress?”.
The site is fairly static, no blogging element. There are images, text, a webform or two. A few plugins (facebook, a calendar, etc.) from APIs to other sites. For example, the front page is a log and nav bar, a large image as a masthead piece, and a few smaller images below with text blocks flanking them. There’s a facebook plugin for liking and a paypal plugin for donations. She wants simple.
She seems to want to be able to switch out these images and text easily, which says CMS to me (although why these elements would need rapid or often change is beyond me), but what she wants as a site is very static and not at all blog-like. So, my question is, does this sound like wordpress? Would it be worth learning to fill this need, or would I be better off looking at a different sort of CMS or just hand-coding it?
Gurus?
