• 1) Image and image gallery captions now cover the image
1a)They have a gradient background. For small images this is insanely silly. All you see is the caption

    2) Inconsistent caption and image alignment in gallery blocks. Depending on the image size. Crop keeps things aligned if columns are set, but (obviously) ruins the images if they are different widths. Narrow images even set to centered end up left aligned with a caption that overflows the width of the screen.

    3) Left aligned images set into text, end up with right justified captions… huh?

    4) any CSS fixes in appearance section (obviously) don’t render in the backend and worse… none of these numerous partial CSS fixes actually resolve the issues, and most introduce all kinds of side effects like . A) hover over linked image in Safari (desk or mobile) causes image caption to float with mouse. B) Firefox ignores caption bounds and allows it to flow across the screen. C) gallery images if not cropped are not baseline aligned…

Countless reports of 3rd party theme issues, none of which occurred in the old engine.

I don’t get it. Captioned images and image galleries are a HUGE part of ANY website and the Gutenberg block engine just about makes them unusable.

Worse, the deeper I dig, the more I get the feeling that the powers that be either don’t care or don’t feel that there is a problem.

I honestly don’t get how a mature platform can be crippled in one fell swoop and nobody cares. “hey don’t look there… look over there at the shin

    Etc.

Styles are overall controlled by the theme, both front-end styles and editor styles.

According to https://themeforest.net/item/gridlove-creative-grid-style-news-magazine-wordpress-theme/17990371 your theme was most recently updated 2 months ago, so make sure you’re on the latest version.

If that still isn’t working, since that is a commercial theme, we ask that you please go to their official support channel, so you can get support from the people who know it best: https://mekshq.com/contact/

Forum volunteers are not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why it is not working properly. Other community members who may have faced your issue might be able to help you but your best bet is your product’s developer. Keep in mind we encourage you to use the official support venues, as it allows the developers to be aware of issues with their code and gives back to the community in a more robust way.

    James:

No offense – but your response is actually part of what appears to be the problem. Every time somebody points out these issues, moderators and devs deflect instead of actually looking into the issue.

The Image and Image gallery blocks are a disaster on a fresh install with a default theme. While the side effects caused by CSS fixes may not be the same, the core issues still are.

    AGAIN
    1) Captions have moved from below the images to OVER the images.
    2) In many instances captions do not wrap or align as expected.
    3) Captions cause SCROLL bars in some cases, depending on text length and image gallery height…

Those are just some of the issues I have had.

A quick search yields many more – and in every case, the end user is blamed instead of the block coding and css… classic.

    etc. etc.

We deflect to the right place. Themes handle styling, it’s their responsibility. I’m sorry you disagree, but it doesn’t change the situation.

Attempting to work at this issue from the wrong direction will simply result in no solution for you. We just want you to get the right solution as quickly as possible, and you’ll get that through your theme, not here.

The Image and Image gallery blocks are a disaster on a fresh install with a default theme.

That is absolutely not my experience with the Twenty Twenty theme.

    3) Captions cause SCROLL bars in some cases, depending on text length and image gallery height…

That is _all_ controlled by your theme, so again, according to https://themeforest.net/item/gridlove-creative-grid-style-news-magazine-wordpress-theme/17990371 your theme was most recently updated 2 months ago, so make sure you’re on the latest version.
