To style h1 headings one goes in Dashboard to Appearance ->Theme Options -> typography. You can change font, size and color. No problem, except when they are used as page titles, in which case I can control size but not font and not color. How can I apply color to all my white page titles?! I use Safari and Chrome on a Mac (El Capitan).

Problem solved: I had activated WP Add Custom CSS plugin and it had added CSS to override Virtue and set all page titles to white. Don’t know where that came from…

Glad you got it sorted out! Typically I just use the built in theme CSS box in Theme Option> Advanced Settings to avoid any confusion multiple CSS locations may cause.

Let me know if you end up needing any assistance with this in the future.
