hacking the permalink & defining custom permalink variables

    We have the option of putting the timestamp in the permalink, but where are these variables, like %monthnum% %hour% and %second% defined at? Is it possible for me to define my own variable like %monthnum% and have that be a part of the permalink structure? Thanks.

    Those are defined in the get_permalink function in link-template.php. And no, there’s no way to change them short of rewriting that code.

    You’d also have to screw around with the WP_Rewrite code (in rewrite.php) to make them work properly.
