Hello @dannylancashire82,
That would a limitation of the geocoding provider ( LeafLet/Google Maps ).
Some names such “Hale” might exist in many places in the world and might not always refer to a name of a city/town. It might be a name or part of a name of a business or a street. And in such scenarios, the geocoder might not be able to geocode the address or it will geocode the wrong location/place.
If you are currently using LeafLet as the geocoding provider, you might want to try Google Maps instead as it is more reliable. Also, in the Settings page of GEO my WP ( General Settings tab ), make sure to enter “UK” as the “Default Region”.
The above are a couple of things you could try. Other than that, the only solution would be to enter a more detailed address, such as “Hale Altrincham”.
I hope this helps.
Hi
Thanks for the reply, I do have it set to GB and Google Maps. I have found the issue also happens with Perth too which is a large area in Scotland and this brings up no results, I’m assuming because it is prioritising Perth in Australia. For both Perth and Hale if I put UK after, the desired results come up. Obviously the searcher isn’t going to do that. By selecting GB does that not in anyway make the assumption it is a GB/UK location? The other option I thought would be auto add UK in the search string but I’m concerned that might have some undesired effects.
Thanks,
Danny
