It’s not complicated π It’s probably because it doesn’t work that you feel so. The “Unknown Command” is definitely a bug that should be fixed. Did you try with Chrome? I got an email from someone not using Chrome and having a similar issue (then worked when using Chrome). Please try with Chrome and confirm. I will definitely fix it (I guess I need to test with Internet Explorer maybe, not sure what you are using).
If you need only the normal image (the one you uploaded at first) and a retina image of it then you are doing the right thing. However, the red squares correspond to the image sizes set up by WordPress and in your themes. If you don’t know what is an image size (that’s WordPress related, not my plugin only) go in the plugin settings and check all the images sizes to ignore them.
I downloaded Chrome. Tried same thing this time no error message, but nothing happened. So it didn’t work… I am so lost. I don’t understand why something so simple is so complicated. I don’t need anything auto generated. I have 2 versions of images, what are the steps I need to take to make this work?
Do I upload both regular size and retina versions through Media first?
Can I send you screenshots of my settings so you can tell me what I am doing wrong?
Okay, I just clicked on Make Retina Required (Pro) and now I see a small thumbnail under Full-Size Retina. So Base image with resolution of 270x 202 now has Full-Size Retina image in the column. But the numbers 270X202 are still in red and there are still 3 red boxes. Does that mean it is still not set up properly?
Did you check the tutorial? It seems you are really really confused with the whole thing and you don’t know about media sizes.
The “Retina for Full-Size” is also a very recent new feature and it is part of the Pro version. Are you using the Pro version?
If you don’t want to study about it thoroughly (it’s not about my plugin only, it’s related to WordPress management of image sizes), then I suggest you to completely forget about those red boxes. This is really the power of this plugin but not everyone is using those features.
Alternatively:
Forget about the Retina dashboard if you find it too confusing. Just upload your images in your Media Manager. Then upload the retina version of them (@2x.jpg or @2x.png extension) through FTP. The plugin will handle delivering them to the devices.
Yes, this is exactly what you should get π I mean, this was generated automatically right? If yes, this is perfect, that is what the plugin is supposed to do when the retina files exist.
I chose to manually upload the retina size for the specific images I wanted. I didn’t generate them automatically. Even if I turn off debug mode, the 2x still shows up in the code (which I pasted above). Is that correct as well?
Yes, its is normal, the debug mode for PictureFill doesn’t impact the HTML code (it only impact cookies and which image the browser will pick).
