Can you first upload that file to Media Library and then pick it from there? How big is the file in size both bytes and pixels? What format is it? What site is this occurring on?

Hi. It’s the 2014 theme. I had no problem uploading the image to my image library. It’s the customize upload button doesn’t seem to be working. When I click on Appearance, Customize, Header image and I click on the down arrow, there’s an upload button. But it’s not responding. The images I previously uploaded are sitting there and can be selected as the header image, but I want to upload a new image to use, except it’s not letting me.
Thanks.

Do you mean you need to upload the same image again. This is unclear to me, “and I click on the down arrow” I have never seen a down arrow at
/wp-admin/themes.php?page=custom-header.
What device/OS/Browser are you doing this from?
If the image is already in the Gallery, have you chosen “Or choose an image from your media library: Choose Image”
Oh and please respond to these:

It’s the Twenty Fourteen theme. The image size/type is not the problem. It’s already uploaded in my image gallery. I can upload to that with no problem.
I worked on the site a week ago, and was able to upload images into the header image option, which is found in the customize area. But today when I try, it’s not working for any images, it’s just not responding.
The down arrow appears once you’ve clicked on Header Image, there’s a box with an arrow next to it. The box currently says “no image”, because I deleted the previous image. However, I still have images in the Header Image area, because they were uploaded last week. I can click on one of those and it will appear in the header, but I don’t want to use any of these images, I want to upload a new image. But now the Upload button under Header Image is no longer responding.

Oh, and I’ve tried it on Chrome and Safari. Same browsers I used before.
Thanks.
Oh, I see now (the down arrow you spoke of), I was going right to Appearance>Header which takes you to the full header edit page. Can you try that.
At Appearance>Customize>Header we can just choose already set header images.
//yoursite.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=custom-header.

uh oh… I uploaded two png files, and it worked, and now it’s telling me “Failed to write file to disk”. I tried uploading previously uploaded images, and am still getting this message. I tried it on both Chrome and Safari.
Any thoughts on the problem with this?

clarification – it’s giving me the Failed notice with all new images I’m now trying to upload. But I was able to upload two without a problem. The file sizes are the same, very small, this is just text for the title of my blog.
“Failed to write file to disk”
This is a server issue. Try asking your hosts about it.
