Hello,
I also installed the plug-in and added a png image to the header, but it’s not transparent. I feel i’ve checked everything, including making sure the background custom color on elementor is transparent. Not sure what else I may be missing. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

For creating the transparent header, I would suggest you follow this link – https://wpastra.com/docs/astra-transparent-header/
The transparent header feature is on our list and we will add it in the plugin settings in upcoming updates.
