• Apologies if this has been answered – tried searching but didn’t find anything quite like what I’m experiencing. So, I’m using Hueman, and it’s set up as a fixed-width template, 2 or 3 columns. Those columns have widgets in them. For site-wide settings, I’ve been using active theme header & footer. When I switch to the Nimble site wide header & footer, my site turns into a full-width, no-column template, and I can’t seem to get the old fixed-width & columns back.

I really want the flexibility of a global header section that can be more than just a topbar menu, but I can’t have that at the expense of my fixed-width column setup.

The fixed-width, active theme header & footer version is at chboothlibrary.org …. and the full-width, Nimble site wide header & footer is at staging.chboothlibrary.org …. I started re-building the content on the staging site, but it’s just not the same. Please, any suggestions?

Yes when using Nimble’s header/footer, global or local, it may change the layout depending which theme you use. Because each theme defines their own container html tags, generally “opened” in the header, and “closed” in the footer.

If you want to define a custom global header for Hueman, the safest way would be to work with a child theme and to override the header.php template file.

Thanks so much for the response. I am using a child theme, so I suppose I can go ahead with that and will certainly give it a shot… But now, on my staging site when I go back to the theme header/footer, I can’t seem to get back my fixed-width template, since I’ve added Nimble content. Even when I try to roll back the Nimble edits or delete Nimble sections, the site remains full-width. Is there no way to use Nimble and maintain a fixed-width layout, along with the theme template columns? I just don’t understand why changing the header/footer causes the rest of the site to lose its main content template.
