I just got off a Chat with a hosting support tech asking about setting our newly launched WP site.
I was asking some help/guidance re-pointing Google Analytics (GA) to the new WP site. We already have a GA acct. that has legacy stats. I didn’t want to lose the legacy stats in new WP Theme. We have the GA ID.

The tech said I needed to install the Headers and Footers Plugin 1st, and then the Google Analytics Dashboard for WordPress plugin.
Please confirm this or correct his statement.

    Thank you,

    TAK

Follow up question to earlier post (sorry I’m a beginner)

Do I need to utilize Google Tag Manager for tracking as well?

    Thanks,

    TAK

You don’t need Google Tag Manager. If you aren’t using a new domain proceed as described in documentation. If the domain has changed, update your Property and View settings from Google Analytics and follow the documentation afterwards.

    Thanks for your response Alin.

I still don’t know if the Headers and Footers Plugin is needed as well. Please clear that question up for me.

    Thanks,

    TAK

With Google Analytics Dashboard for WP you have a complete tracking/reporting solution. Maybe they recommended that plugin for something else, I can’t tell for sure without knowing the initial request.

    Another beginner question Alin…
I understand that the GA data will be available within the plugin on our WP Dashboard. But will the same data also be available on our separate GA site, where we monitor our other sites?

    Thank you

    TAK

Yes, because all the data is collected in your Google Analytics account.
