I am at my wits end and on the verge of giving up on WordPress and going back to Blogger after just over 2 days. I’ve already had my entire blog wiped once and had to start again, losing a whole day’s work.

I now need urgent help because at the moment the only thing my blog is showing is this phrase: Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ELSE in /home/eilism/public_html/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/header.php on line 104

The problem started when I tried to replace the header text in TwentyEleven – have given up trying to edit a fancier theme because you appear to need to be a HTML expert to do this.

Can anyone please, please help? At the moment my entire blog is blank and all because I tried to change the header to the name of my blog, Dublin to Hollywood!

  • Never edit the Twenty Eleven theme. It is the default WordPress 3.2 theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. Create a child theme for your changes.

For now, download a fresh copy of the theme to your computer, unpack the archive and upload the theme’s folder to wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

This is the problem – I don’t understand how to do any of that. How do i unpack an archive?

If you are using Windows, just double click the zipped archive, copy the folder inside of it and paste it some place else on your computer.

i’m using a Mac. I’ve managed to de-install that Theme and then re-install it, so it looks okay now. One other thing, to stop this happening again, how do you change the header text in Twenty Eleven? Surely this is possible?

    Thanks for your help!

The header text is simply your site name and your site’s tagline/description. Both of these can be changed via Settings ->General.
