I’ve got a working spam filter, but the spam attack my website is suffering is so massive that it prevents legitimate visitors from posting comments because of the 15 second rule (system does not admit comments).

How can I deal with this? I there a way to prevent the spam from being posted at all?

Are you using any spam blocking plugins?
If you have WP 2.x it comes with Akismet.
    You can also install these:

I’m using WP 1.5.1.3. Can I install Akismet there?
Will that solve the problem or just filter the comments?

I don’t know if akismet works for 1.5.x. Try to read about it on their page: http://akismet.com/
The other two plugins have versions for 1.5.x.
    Why not upgrade?

yeah, I’d turn off commenting, upgrade, install akismet, and then live life normally

I tried SpamKarma and it works very well as I spam filter, but it turns off moderation for legitimate comments. This is NOT what I was looking for. Can I have SpamKarma work without turning off moderation??

I’ve also being majorly spammed right now. I’ve disallowed comments on all my posts (both ones already up on my blog and future ones). But the spammers are still posting! How do I get them to stop?

You read the earlier posts in this thread.

Akismet or Spam Karma 2. Either of those wiht Bad behavior. All 3 are plugins.
