• Today I updated some Plugins and the new WordPress. After I could not return to any site (wp-admin etc.) and I got the message on the screen ” The file ‘wp-config.php’ already exists. If you need to reset any of the configuration items in this file, please delete it first. You may try to installing now.’
I am not a pro in this field, I pressed installing now and nothing happened. As I couldn’t acces to any page of my site I deleted the wp-config.php, which wasn’t really smart I guess but I couldn’t do anything else. Then I installed WP again and now I find myself at 0 with a new WP account and all my work is gone.
I have a magazine so I’m living hell in this moment as I am afraid I lost everything. The magazine startet in January and as I saif I’m not a pro, I didn’t do a backup either.

PLEASE give me some advice how to restore my old website, there must be a way. I’m just going nuts now. The website is my job and my life!!!

I hope someone can help me!
    Thank you

  • Since you didn’t create manual backups of your site files and database, your only option is to contact your hosting company and see if they have a recent backup of those two things (most hosting companies maintain some sort of backups).

Hopefully you’ll be able to recover your website successfully. In the future, remember to always ALWAYS backup everything before doing any sort of updates/transfers/heavy theme/plugin modifications. I always recommend Updraft Plus, it takes backups at regular intervals and uploads them to remote storage (like Dropbox or Amazon) automatically. Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your quick reply. I requested my database copy to my webhost.
I used a template that I bought, if I restore my database will the template be back as well or would I have to reinstall?
I don’t know how it works to put my database into the new wordpress I downloaded ? I probably have to get someone coming over to help me :/

It looks like your blog is on WordPress.com. Support would be at
